Reviews
Here is how the ratings work:
For Album Reviews:
0/5 Avoid at all Cost: In short, this rating is used only for horrible, horrible albums. Items that would factor into such a bad rating would be: Sound Quality, Quality of Music and Lyrics, and overall Presentation. Hopefully this rating will rarely be handed out.
1/5 A Stinkbomb: This rating is used for albums that aren’t up to par. Albums that receive this rating can be recorded badly, but this rating can be handed out if the album is recorded well but the music is unbearable. Basically, this rating suggests that no one should purchase this album, but a quick listen to might not hurt…
2/5 A Broken Record: This rating is a bit better than the Stinkbomb rating. The music may be at par or better but the recording sucks, or the recording is great but the music is just mediocre. Something about an album given this rating just makes you not want to purchase or listen all that often, but maybe there’s a song or two of interest on it.
3/5 A Mediocre Minute: This album may be worth purchasing. This album also may bore the hell out of you. You may ask yourself why you paid $16.99 at Borders after your first listening. Sound quality should be great, or else the music itself must be awesome to overcome any bad recording. This is the album you buy and then set aside to get dusty for 5 – 10 years. You find these types of albums at garage sales.
4/5 A Worthy Purchase Indeed: Worth purchasing. 75% of the album is good, but its not perfect. Maybe the lyrics are lacking, or the album is too long. Perhaps the sound quality isn’t up to par. Either way, you’re proud to own this album, but songs from it end up on your playlist, or if you do listen to the album itself, you cut it off before you’ve heard the whole thing. Definitely worth a listen.
5/5 A Reason to Listen: This is the type of album that made you want to pick up an instrument in the first place. You can listen to a record of this calibre from song 1 to the end. After that, you want to listen to it again. Albums like this give you hope; hope that good albums will continue to be made, and hope that you will one day find another album of such greatness. My gratitude and money to any artists that make an album deserving of this rating.
